Global Research - Special Research - Associate

The Special Research group is a new and unique team within J.P. Morgan Global Research. The team focuses on developing deep insights into a range of emerging growth industries and companies, and delivering these to the most senior management levels of the firm. The team conducts its own primary and secondary research and partners closely with a range of leading Analysts from across the Global Research franchise and other subject matter experts, to develop original insights into significant industry, investor and company trends - listed, private and start-up.

The group is now looking to add an ambitious Associate to the team based in J.P. Morgan's New York office. This is a fast-paced high impact, high visibility role that offers the right candidate an unparalleled opportunity to develop unique industry, company and investor knowledge across a range of emerging sectors, build strong analytical and communication skills, interact with and impact some of the most senior executives in the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

Research, analysis & market intelligence

  • Evaluate industry, company, transaction, investor and start-up trends across multiple sectors
  • Gather data from a variety of sources and execute analysis to test key hypotheses
  • Conduct detailed macro, financial industry and company analysis
  • Track trends across emerging industries and areas of private capital investment

Storyboarding and communication
  • Create clear, fact-based storylines that draw out insights and implications from research
  • Formulate well-structured and impactful management ready content for presentations
  • Communicate key arguments and insights effectively to senior stakeholders

Stakeholder engagement
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across Research and other parts of the firm
  • Develop proactive partnership with team, research analysts and other experts on specific topics
  • Contribute to and lead on some interviews, group and senior level discussions

Essential Skills:

  • Highly motivated self-starter with excellent communication, presentation and team skills
  • Keen interest in financial markets and strong intellectual curiosity
  • Proven ability to break down open questions into logical, digestible components for analysis
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to rapidly learn new financial, industry and technology concepts
  • Confident user of Excel, MSOffice suite and market databases like Bloomberg
  • Close attention to detail and ability to work to very high standards and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, some experience in programming languages like Python beneficial

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Minimum 3-4 years working in Equity Research, Investment Banking, Private Equity or Venture Capital
  • Excellent academic background from a top-tier institution, post graduate degreeor MBA preferred
  • Prior experience working with senior stakeholders would be beneficial
